RAC Car Insurance
The RAC was founded in 1897, some eight years before their great competitor the AA. They have had numberous firsts in over a century of acting on behalf of the motorist including the introduction of emergency roadside telephones.
The RAC offers in addition to it's familiar breakdown cover, car insurance, vehicle checks, loans, travel insurance and van insurance
In September 1999 RAC Motoring services was sold by members of the Royal Automobile Club and became RAC Plc and retained the role of motor services (breakdown recovery etc) while the RAC Foundation took on the role of motoring advocates. In March 2005 the RAC was bought by Aviva, the parent group that owns Norwich Union for £1.1 billion.
