Founded in the last year of the 19th Century by a group of investors including Giovanni Agnelli the car company still has strong links with the family - they own 30%. F.I.A.T stands for Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino which can be translated as the Italian Car Factory, Turin. Fiat is Italy's largest car manufacturer and own a stable of famous brands including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Maserati. The Fiat group of companies has been experiencing a series of loses over recent years and it is likely that it will be swallowed up by another large car manufacturer in the near future.
