A recent survey by swiftcover.com has found that many motorists are skeptical that the massive increase in speed cameras over the last ten years has been for road safety reasons.

Speed cameras have been put in place by local authorities on stretches of road that are deemed to be high risk, but motorists are suspicious that the 2.2 million speeding tickets handed out by local authorities every year (three times as many as ten years ago) are not just an innovative form of tax that swells the coffers of the local authorities.
