The best piece of general advice that can be given about insurance and you have heard it many times before is to shop around. If you get ten policy quotes the chances are the the most expensive will cost twice what the cheapest costs! That extra effort is worth it, think how many hours you would need to work to earn that amount, so spending 2 hours getting quotes is time well spent.

If you are with an insurance company you like and trust and you receive a lower quote from another company. Why not contact your current company at renewal time and ask them to match the offer. You will find that quite often they are prepared to do so.

Remember, all policies are not created equal. Check the small print to see what extras might be bundled in the policy that be useful to you, covering alternative accomodation should the worse happen to your home may be a very useful extra

Remember, any insurance company no matter how reputable, will probably not pay out in the event of you providing misleading information.
