A recent survey by the insurer Privilege has revealed that most of us are leaving our homes exposed to theft. Some of these lapses may even worse, result in an insurarnce company not paying up because of your carelessness, so have a think about how many of these apply to you.

Over three quarters either don't have a burglar alarm or regularly forget to set it when they go out.

Nearly two thirds don't ask tradesmen for identification

Over a third don't get the locks changed after they lose their keys.

One fifth don't always lock their doors and windows before they go out

Around one in six don't know how many people have keys to their house.

One third leave an emergency key outside.

Half don't leave a light on when they are away from the house.
