Staged Accidents on the Rise
A recent survey by Royal and Sun Alliance has revealed
the the British public are largely unaware of the rapidly growing
crime of staging accidents.
A staged accident occurs when criminals deliberately
set out to have an accident where another innocent party will be held
at fault. They then lodge an inflated insurance claim alledging ficticious
injuries often to people not even in the car at the time. They often
act in cahoots with unscrupulous doctors and / or motor mechanics.
One favourite method of staged accident is where the
brake lights of the criminals car are disconnected and then they brake
suddenly in front of another car, causing the victim to drive into
the back of them.
The criminal then makes a claim for many thousands of
pounds and can leave their victim with no no claims bonus and an accident
on their record for the next 4-5 years, meaning years of higher insurance
premiums.
