The famous Italian sports
car brand has come on by leaps and bounds in recent years, shaking
off a reputation for rust and poor build quality. The company, now
owned by Fiat, was founded in 1907 by the Milanese Cavaliere Ugo Stella.
In 1916 it was taken over by Nicolo Romeo and the name was changed
to Alfa Romeo. Alfa Romeo has a prestigeous history in racing winning
many famous races including the Mille Miglia, Formula 1 and Le Mans
with famous drivers including Juan Manuel Fangio and Enzo Ferrari.
The Alfa Romeo Spider famously made an appearance in the film, 'The
Graduate' starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. Alfa Romeo styling
has always been cutting edge and even being swallowed by Fiat has
not diminished the styling of the cars, which is often outsourced
to design houses such as Pininfarina.
